We’re all about relationships

Say Hello

AcCount Above Accounting

A Triple “A” Full Service Accounting Firm At Your Service

We love numbers as much as the next CPA, but building relationships is at the heart of what we do. That means we’ll become BFFs with your business goals. We’ll recognize your voice on the phone. And we’ll even show you the fun side of tax planning – because more money in your pocket is always a good time.

Ryan Johnson CPA

Ryan Johnson CPA

Owner & Tallest Man in Accounting

His career may have started in 2008, but Ryan always knew he wanted to build a different kind of accounting firm. As our fearless owner, Ryan builds relationships with clients from initial consultation and beyond. Ultra-focused on helping small businesses plan ahead, he never stops thinking of ways to add value to our clients. He got his CPA certificate in 2014 and has a BA from Concordia University, where he played college basketball. (Ryan continues to shoot hoops when he can.) Around the office, Ryan is always busy but never too busy to help a client or fellow coworker. He works hard to perfect his craft, not just as a CPA, but as husband to wife Denise and father to daughters Sofia and Maylee.

Debra Hobbs

Debra Hobbs

Senior Accountant & Coffee Fiend

As our longest-standing employee, Debra brings an impressive 30+ years of experience in tax and accounting. She’s in charge of all-things-payroll and also prepares tax returns for corporations, partnerships, trusts and non-profits. But what she loves most is helping clients every day. When she’s not working hard in the office, Debra likes to sew, travel and catch dinner and a movie with her friends.

Tammy Petersen

Tammy Petersen

Office Manager & Sports Nut

Always bright and bubbly, Tammy has been building relationships with our clients since 2006. As our office manager, she pretty much does it all: assembling returns, answering calls, solving IT mysteries and cheering on the Blazers. Tammy’s equally ambitious outside of work as co-commissioner of her fantasy football league, grandmother to 3 and an avid golfer, hiker and traveler.

Aaron Sorenson

Aaron Sorenson

Staff Accountant & Progressive Rocker

Aaron came on board in 2017 after graduating Summa Cum Laude from Concordia University. Aaron has a rich background in investments, banking and financial services. As a staff accountant, he works on payroll and business taxes while sharing an endless stream of dad jokes. When he’s not working, Aaron loves hanging out with his son, rooting for the Timbers and playing with his prog rock band.

Zoe Mullen

Zoe Mullen

Staff Accountant & Dance-off Queen

Since joining us in 2017, Zoe has become a true partner for our clients – and a source of endless energy in the office, from impromptu desk dancing to soccer chanting. A proud OSU graduate and Division 1 rower, Zoe now has her sights set on acing her CPA exams. When she’s not cheering on the Portland Thorns, Zoe loves hiking, camping and quoting Will Ferrell whenever possible.

Christopher Ryan

Christopher Ryan

Staff Accountant & Movie Buff

Chris joined us in 2014 as an intern and never looked back. Since graduating from Concordia University in 2016 with a BA in Accounting, he recently passed his CPA exams. Chris does it all for our clients, from business to personal taxes. In the office, he keeps our spirits high with goofy one-liners and tales of snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, Oahu. A gamer and a Marvel fan, Chris lives in Salem, OR with his fiance Tiare.

Timothy Badley

Timothy Badley

Staff Accountant & Track Star

Tim graduated from Concordia University in 2008 with a BA in Accounting, and joined our team in 2018. A staff accountant with a can-do attitude, Tim does a little bit of everything from taking client calls to preparing returns. He’s also an undercover 2-time NAIA All-American in Track in Field. Tim still loves running and also spends his free time reading, watching movies and eating his Mom’s famous cheese, sausage and rice casserole…mmmm.

Michelle McHugh

Michelle McHugh

Office Assistant & Sudoku Whiz

Michelle joined us in 2018 and our office couldn’t be happier. She greets clients with a smile, takes calls, handles scheduling and pitches in everywhere. (It’s no wonder she racked up awards in her previous roles.) Michelle loves working at AcCount Above because of the team’s positivity and work hard/play hard dogma. She also loves logic games, loom knitting and substituting her husband Ted’s name into hits from Neil Diamond.

We’d love to hear about you!
